Discover your Inner Bee
Hum your way to feeling happiness!

In light of our upcoming yoga workshop, we thought it would be fun to open the conversation up to one of yoga’s most ancient practices…
Bhramari, commonly known as bee breath, is a profound breathing technique rooted in the ancient wisdom of yogic traditions. The name itself draws inspiration from the humming bee-like sound produced during exhalation.
This age-old practice finds its earliest mention in classical texts such as the Hatha Yoga Pradipika, where it was originally presented as a tool for calming the mind and soothing the nerves. Its essence has remained through the ages, offering a timeless pathway to inner peace.
In our modern world, the tangible benefits of pranayama have been studied, revealing improvements in respiratory function, enhanced sleep quality, and reduced stress levels.
If you've ever experienced that overwhelming need to release tension at the end of a challenging day, you'll resonate with the magic of Bhramari. The gentle vibration and soothing sound of this breath is a refuge for those at Repower who complement our pilates practice with yoga, helping us shed the burdens of gathered stress and emotion that come with being human.
For those new to Bhramari, get ready for the bee’s knees of breathing practices. What we love most about Bhramari is that it is accessible to all, inviting a moment of serene connection and centredness.

How to Practice Bhramari Breath:
- Find a comfortable seated or standing position, ensuring length in your spine and grounding in your legs.
- Eyes can be opened or closed.
- Traditionally, you place your thumbs in the cartrilage of the ears and the four fingers over the head or place your fingers over your senses.
- For us, we like to place our hands on a part of our bodies that craves attention. You choose for yourself!
- Inhale deeply through the nose.
- Exhale, creating a gentle buzzy-bee sound through closed lips.
- Repeat the cycle 5-10 times.
- Pause, and feel the transformative effects.
- Bring your awareness back into the space you're in, feeling renewed and centred.
Beyond its physiological benefits, this bee breath serves as a gateway to a deeper meditative state, fostering a connection between the mind, body, and spirit. In the midst of our busy lives, cultivating such a holistic approach to well-being becomes increasingly valuable. Just as a bee contributes to the harmony of nature, so too can the resonance of this breath contribute to the harmony within ourselves.
Let us know how you get on with your Bhramari practice and allow that soothing hum to guide you towards a calmer you.
